The third in the world (since 1842) and second in Russia hospital exclusively aimed at children's healthcare was found after the initiative of physicians' professional community and from the middle of the 19-th century became a big university research and educational center. Since that time hospital has never stopped working.
Now Filatov children's hospital - is the world leader in pediatric surgery and neonatology. Parents from all over the country entrust their family`s health – their main treasure into our hands.
What we do
Together with our research partners - Pirogov N.I. Russian National Research Medical University, Russian Medical Academy of continuous education we host 10 chairs that develop and bring in practice a number of new clinical treatments and techniques. We treat about 35 thousands of inpatients per year and 300 000 of outpatients receive medical aid at our diagnostic centre. The big number of the children we care for are referred from other hospitals and maternity hospitals. Neonatology
In big NICU, neonatology and neonatal surgery departments we help babies of any gestational age to fight the disease. Our hospital is the Moscow competency centre for the newborn in critical condition.

Thorax surgery
In the thorax surgery clinic there are performed the newest operations on

- larynx, trachea and bronchi (1200 a year);
- diaphragma (30 a year)

Our surgeons are the world experts in esophageal surgery, liver, bile tract and pancreatic surgery in children. Very complicated operation on trachea, larynx and are made with the help of extracorporal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Cardiac surgery
We are specializing on surgical correction of congenital heart diseases (CHD) including using artificial blood circulation as well as endovascular procedures. More than 400 children with CHD are operated a year. The percentage of operated newborns is one of the highest among european clinics (EACTS Congenital Database) and hospital stay is one of the lowest. We have now growing experience in treating CHD in prematures (from 700 g).
Newborn surgery
Our department of infant surgery work in a team with our US-consulting center for pregnant women and is specializing on treating malformation of respiratory, digestive and urinary systems including combined malformations. Every year more than 1000 newborn undergo a full course of treatment here. We use endoscopic or mini invasive methods. We treat:
- diaphragmatic hernia;
- gastroschisis
- intestinal malformations,
- Hirschsprung disease and other neuropatiyas if the intestine;
- anal atresia
- urinary and reproductive tract pathology.

We provide long-term care for children with short bowel syndrome (SBS)
Our team of doctors - pediatricians, surgeons, gastroenterologists, microsurgeons have invented individual schemes of rehabilitation and supportive therapy for children with SBS including home parenteral nutrition.
Microsurgery
High-tecnicnological medical help on the micro level is provided for patients with bone, tendon and vessel trauma of hand and foot. We perform plastic and reconstructive procedures after burns, trauma, radial therapy. We are also specialized on vessels malformations. Endovascular procedures are use in the majority of those cases. and also unique phlebectasia sclerotherapy. Endovascular occlusion of arteriovenous shunts and complex hemangioma treatment are proceeded with the help of angiography.
Traumatology and orthopedics
One of the biggest departments in the hospital works in connection with outpatient trauma and orthopedics center. Here developmental anomaly and trauma of the musculoskeletal system are treated. We heal dysplastic progressive scoliosis of children with unfinished growth with the help of sliding endocorrector. It gives an opportunity to save the spine growth after the procedure, that’s why it is possible to start the correction at the age of 8 years not waiting till the end of growth. Knee and shoulder and elbow joints reconstruction are made with the help of arthroscopy.
Urology
We annually provide assistance to 4000 children with malformation, trauma and diseases of urinary system. In this department 3500 of abdominal and about 800 endoscopic operations take place every year. The department team has gained a unique experience in endoscopic pyeloplasty for kids with hydronephrosis and also in surgical correction of hypospadias.

Травматология и ортопедия :
оперативные вмешательства и консервативное лечение врожденных пороков развития и травмы опорно-двигательного аппарата у детей. Оперативное лечение диспластического прогрессирующего сколиоза у детей с незавершенным ростом с использованием «скользящего» эндокорректора, дающего возможность сохранения роста позвоночника после оперативного вмешательства, что позволяет выполнять радикальную коррекцию начиная уже с 8 лет.
